1. What this policy covers

This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies Cairn Learning (“Cairn”, “we”, “us”) uses on cairnplan.com, why we use them, and how you can control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy.

A cookie is a small file a website stores on your device. “Similar technologies” includes things like local storage that work in much the same way. We use the word “cookies” below to cover all of them.

2. The categories we use

Strictly necessary. These make the site work. Without them, the service cannot function, so they do not require your consent. Our main one is the session identifier that keeps your place while you build a plan.

Analytics. These help us understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it. We use PostHog for this, configured conservatively: no automatic click capture, no session recording, and only a short, whitelisted set of events that never include your child's name, free text, or profile details. Analytics runs only on our production site and honors your browser's Do Not Track signal, as described below.

We do not use advertising or marketing cookies. Cairn does not run ads and does not let third parties track you across other sites through our service.

3. The specific cookies we set

Local storage keys are listed alongside cookies because they work the same way. If we add or remove an entry, we will update this table and the date above.

4. Third-party cookies

Some of the providers who help us run Cairn may set their own cookies, for example our hosting provider. We list our service providers in our Privacy Policy. When you follow a link from a recommendation to a learning provider's own site, that provider sets its own cookies under its own policy, which we do not control.

5. How to control cookies

The simplest control is your browser's Do Not Track setting: when it is on, our analytics does not run at all, and the only entries we set are the strictly necessary ones in the table above.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the service from working.

6. Do Not Track

Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no agreed standard for how sites should respond, but we treat it as an opt-out: when your browser sends the signal, our analytics tool does not record events from your visit and does not set its identifier.

7. Cookies and children

Cairn is used by parents on behalf of children. Some identifiers, such as a session identifier, can count as personal information about a child under children's privacy laws. We keep non-essential identifiers off by default and limit what we collect, as described in our Privacy Policy.

8. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our use of cookies changes, and we will update the version and date above.
